Jackson Hole, Wyoming

One of the first things which stood out to me about Jackson Wyoming was the infrastructure. From the moment you walk into the airport you can't help but appreciate the local flavor. Pics and statues of wildlife decorated the lobby walls and floor. Everything was either wood colored or wood, very little to contrast the natural elements.

The majestic Grand Teton Mountain range (I went in June, so there was still some snow on the mountaintops) is everywhere. I saw it from the air, from the airport grounds, from the drive away from the airport, from Moose Head Ranch, from the drive to Yellowstone National Park, everywhere.

Moose Head Ranch was like going to grown up camp and being at one with the elements. The ranch is dotted with quaint log cabins, each with a name, decor and design of its own. The wildflowers, streams and ponds add to the tranquility of Moose Head Ranch. A quiet retreat, except the sounds of nature; the wind in the trees, the horses and birds and the occasional bell from the lodge signaling that it is either time for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The kitchen whips up really delicious food and the entire ranch staff is very friendly and helpful.
Be sure to catch one of the riding tours to explore some of the surrounding areas such as Snake River.

In downtown Jackson Hole, the famous ski slopes are right there and quite visible from most locations. Did not spend too much time in the town because the sun was blazing hot. I did, however, get to enjoy my first bison burger and took pics of the park which has elk antler displays at all its entrances. In downtown Jackson, the idea was the same, preserving the traditional architecture and Midwestern feel. Luckily there were lots of shops to take home the right souvenir, irrespective of your taste.

The highlight of my trip besides relaxing at Moose Head Ranch was seeing the wildlife; a herd of buffalo, 2 elks grazing, a lone moose on my way back to the airport for departure and visiting Yellowstone. I must admit I desperately wanted to see a bear at Yellowstone, but only from the confines of the vehicle I was in. Hopefully the next time around.

  2. Jackson Hole is one of the most wonderful spots I've been too. I've only been during winter. Husband and I took a dog-sledding trip through the Tetons in -14 degree weather and it was glorious. You make me want to go back during warmer weather.

  34. This place would be perfect for my parents 50th wedding anniversary! Growing up 4 miles from Glacier National Park, I learned to appreciate what nature and the Mountains have to offer. We moved to the San Juanquin Valley in CA when I was still in school. My parents talk of how much they miss the mountain life; and, this place would help bring back all those memories. I can't think of a better place for them to celebrate 50 years together than at the Moose Head Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming!

  69. Thanks for sharing! My brother goes to Jackson Hole every year with one of his childhood friends. They started doing it when they were very little, and it's no wonder they continue to do it after almost 25 years! It's such an enormous state, and there's so much to see and do. He sends me postcards every year, but I'm always hoping he packs me in his suitcase instead! If I had a million dollars, I would definitely buy a place there and live surrounded by beauty.
